Interests in mathematical physics and the planetary environment originally drew to me to the field of physical oceanography and continue to motivate my research. My areas of focus include the general fluid dynamics and thermodynamics of the ocean and atmosphere; air-sea interaction; coastal, mesoscale and large-scale ocean circulation; coastal and boundary-layer meteorology; and the instabilities and nonlinear dynamics of geophysical fluids. In this work, my general goal is and has been to improve our basic understanding of important physical processes through a combination of theoretical, numerical, and observational methods.
